Ranong is the first southern province on the western coast, located 568 kilometres from Bangkok. Ranong occupies an area of 3,298 square kilometres and is bordered by Myanmar and the Indian Ocean to the west.

Within its compact area, Ranong contains various natural attractions and is blessed with hot springs and unspoiled mangrove forests.

How to get to Ranong from Bangkok

Car
Ranong can be reached from Bangkok by taking Highway No. 4 via Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chumphon, a total distance of 568 kilometres.

Bus
The journey takes about 9 hours. Tickets can be purchased at the Southern Bus terminal,
visit www.transport.co.th for more information.

There are several bus options you can take from Bangkok to Ranong. All of them are air conditioned.

Privately run bus companies:

1. New Mit Tour: 02-281-6939, 02-281-6949

2. Chok Anan Tour: 02-435-7429, 02-435-5027-9

The bus leaves Bangkok at 9 AM, 8 PM, and 9 PM. Tickets start from 435 Baht.

VIP government run bus. Tickets cost 665 Baht and the telephone number is 02-435-1199, 02-435-1200.

Second class air conditioned bus. Tickets cost 333 Baht and they do not accept revervations (first come first serve). These leave Bangkok at 7.10 AM, 8.40 AM, 10.30 AM, 1.40 PM, 3.30 PM, 5.30 PM, 6.50 PM, 8.50 PM, and 9.45 PM.

You can also take the second class bus to Phuket and before you actually get to Phuket, get off at Ranong. These leave at 4 PM, 5 PM, and 10.30 PM.

Train

Take the train to Chumpon and take a minibus to Ranong (approximately 2 hour ride). The minibus leaves Chumpon every hour and costs 120 Baht.

Air
Air Asia flies direct from Bangkok to Ranong on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday. The schedules are:

Bangkok to Ranong - depart 3.10 PM, arrive 4.15 PM

Ranong to Bangkok - depart 4.45 PM, arrive 5.50 PM

From the Ranong pier to Ko Phayam

it's a 2 hour boat ride in a 60 seat transport boat. The boat schedules are:

Ranong to Ko Phayam at 9.30 AM and 2 PM
Ko Phayam to Ranong at 8.30 AM and 2 PM

The boat ride costs 150 Baht ($4).

Once you arrive on Ko Phayam, it's a short motorcycle ride to Hornbill Hut which costs 60-70 Baht ($2).
